China Airlines have bright business prospects

China Airlines (CAL) reported its sales revenue in August reached NT$6.68 billion, with profit about NT$514 millionon last Friday.

For the first eight months of year 2000, the sales revenue of NT$46 billion accounted for 64.9% of it annul forecast of NT$70.9 billion. At the same time, CAL posted a pretax profit of NT$2.35 billion during the January-August period, already exceeding the company's current forecast of NT$2.25 billion for 2000.

Respectively, the carrier's passenger and cargo loading rates have improved to 84% and 85% in last month, the highest levels of past few years, said CAL President Christine Tsung, who took up her current post in a management overhaul in late June.

Besides, CAL will launch chartered passenger flights to India and cargo flights to Malaysia in early September, to further boost its sales, Tsung added.

In related news, Tsung said the board of China Airlines has not yet discussed a planned investment project that involves a potential acquisition of a 25% stake in mainland's China Cargo Airlines.
