Offshore transshipment center will operate in Kaohsung Harbor in August
The Export Processing Zone
Administration (EPZA) was notified by the Ministry of Finance to
open companies at the offshore transshipment center in Kaohsiung
Harbor to process mainland Chinese goods for exports. The plan is
expected to become effective in August.
The move is a major step toward the establishment of direct
transportation, trade and postal links across the Taiwan Strait.
The Ministry of Transportation and Communications is also
scheduled to discuss the three "mini direct links" for
direct transport and commercial dealing between Taiwan's
frontline islands and mainland China.
In order to make the process become simple, the Council for
Economic Planning and Development suggestec that companies
operating in the offshore transshipment center do not need to set
up bonded factories.
