Overseas companies invest huge capital into Taiwan
telecommunication industry
Yesterday the Investment Commission under the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA)approved
three overseas telecommunications service companies invest US$430 million capital in
Taiwan telecommunication industry.
A Singapore telecom group will invest about US$258 million into a fixed telecommunications
network services (FTNS) company that found by the Far Eastern Group in Taiwan. The FTNS
company is one of the four bidding groups fighting for FTNS licenses. The Ministry of
Transportation and Communications will announce the winners of the new business licenses
on March 19. Besides, An overseas holding company that registered in the Virgin Islands
will invest US$99.35 million in the China Trust Group in KG Telecom company. Digital
United Inc. (DUI) will pour US$73.65 million to be remitted into Taiwan's stock market to
purchase DUI shares in Taiwan.
The three investment cases from overseas Internet and telecommunications service companies
highlight the fast growing trend of telecom and Internet services companies in
Taiwan.
