Taiwan's tourists up in 1999


According to statistics released by the Tourism Bureau, the rate of Taiwan's inbound and outbound tourists up 4.9% and10% from 1998. The numbers of inbound and outbound tourists are 2.41 million and 6.55 millionin 1999, hit the highest record.

Compared to the number in 1997, inbound tourists showed a slight increase of 1.46%, and the outbound tourists posted a higher growth of 6.44%.

The statistics showed that the number of Taiwan people traveling abroad growing annually. The earth quake on Sep. 21st did not influence on the willingness of people to make overseas trips. By contrast, the quake impeded overseas tourists to come to Taiwan, as the number of inbound tourists showed an average decline of 20% during the September-December period of 1999.
